Kids Sailing Scheme Wheel

If your kids want to sail, then Sunsail Clubs has the best range of options to turn them from capsizers into gybers!

Here's why:

• FREE Structured sailing sessions for 5 year olds upwards, at least 1 hour per day within Kids Club
• RYA Start Sailing stages 1,2,3 and 4 available at all our Clubs
• Great range of easy to use sailing equipment designed for the smaller sailor
• Emphasis on safety at all times

Younger children can benefit from our Kids’ Sailing Scheme, where all abilities will be encouraged to develop their skills on the water including rigging up, tacking, gybing, wind awareness, steering and capsize recovery.

This scheme is free and runs at every Club as part of the Kids’ Club daily activities (this sailing scheme is aimed at 5 – 17 year olds), providing a minimum of an hour a day on the water with our professional instructors.

Once they have decided that sailing is for them, then we have fully RYA qualified instructors at all our clubs who will be able to take your children to the next level.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – 8 to 16 Years

Courses up to Stage 3 may be delivered in single handed or double handed boats, but Stage 4 should involve mainly the use of double-handed boats. Stage 3 is equivalent to Level 2 in the National Sailing Scheme. Sailors who are unable to complete parts of the syllabus due to a disability may still receive a certificate, endorsed as necessary e.g. ‘needs assistance with capsize drill’, etc.

Sunsail Clubs Under 18 Sailing Policy

At Sunsail we treat the safety of children on the water as our number 1 objective. With this in mind, we have developed a system of wrist bands.

• Under 18s are not allowed to take to the water without a wrist band
• Wrist bands are provided in 5 colours, which signify the level of sailing ability
• More advanced boats are only allowed to be sailed outside of kids club by children if they have the most advanced wrist band.
