RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion and Practical Exam


The aim of this course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Involving an overnight passage it’s ideal for competent Day Skippers who want to move on to more extended cruising in unfamiliar waters, in more challenging sailing conditions, and for longer periods of time. If successful the Skipper can then charter a Sunsail yacht from any Sunsail base worldwide.

Pre-course experience
Course Completion only - 15 days sea time - 2 days as skipper, 300 miles in tidal waters, 8 night hours and navigation to Coastal Skipper shore based standard.
Course Completion and Exam - as above plus Course Completion certificate, Restricted (VHF only) Radio Operator's certificate and First Aid certificate.

Ability after course
Course Completion only - skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night
Course Completion and Exam - as above with qualification
