Shorebased
Sunsail offers a selection of 'support' courses to improve your seamanship CV. These courses can benefit anyone who sails but are especially useful to those who plan to pursue a career in the yachting industry or those who may be buying their own boat. Learn the essential radio skills, first aid, navigation and all you need to know about the boats themselves to feel completely at ease on board.
Some of the courses are prerequisities for higher qualifications. The RYA Day Skipper Theory Shorebased course teaches the theory and background knowledge to enable you to move onto your Day Skipper practical course. The RYA GMDSS Radio Course covers the use of the low power, short range marine GMDSS VHF Radio including routine procedures for communicating with other vessels, harbour masters, coastguards, marinas, and yacht clubs. The RYA Small Craft First Aid Course covers the situations that a yachtsman is likely to encounter with particular emphasis on resuscitation techniques, how to treat a patient with hypothermia and the care of a man-overboard victim. The Basic Navigation and Safety Two Day Theory Course provides a good introduction to navigation and safety at sea.
The support courses featured on these pages are operated from Sunsail's head office base at Port Solent on the south coast of England. Whilst at head office you will benefit from an on site dedicated training facility. You can also take advantage of membership for Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club's Quayside bar and diner, situated in the same building as the Sunsail offices. All our shore based courses include refreshments on arrival, mid morning and mid afternoon. Lunch will be available to purchase in Quayside.
