Itineraries and Maps

Our base at Neiafu is the capital of Vavaíu and your starting point for exploring the archipelago of fifty luscious islands on an unforgettable Tonga sailing itinerary. Experience dramatic deep water drop-offs filled with giant fern forests, an array of colourful surroundings, turquoise blue lagoons, white coral sand beaches and vibrant green coconut plantations. During the summer season you may even be lucky enough to find yourself sailing amongst pools of humpback whales.

Tonga 14 days

Day 1: Vava’u

Depart from our base and navigate your way through the idyllic Tongan islands and head south west towards Hunga Island.

Day 2: Hunga Island

Once you arrive you will find several excellent beaches and a restaurant serving fresh local cuisine for you to indulge in. This huge lagoon formed by the crater of an extinct volcano, makes an excellent spot for swimming and snorkelling.

Day 3: Vaka'eitu

Sail to Vaka’eitu, for its picturesque anchorage and peaceful surroundings.

Day 4: Nuku, Kapa Island

At Mariner’s cave on Kapa Island you can snorkel through the heart-shaped entrance into a mystical, blue-lit cavern. Kapa Island also has an intriguing multi-coloured chamber big enough to take a dinghy inside.

Day 7: Mouni

The most southern inhabited island of the Vava’u group, Mouni is an idyllic, privately owned eco-resort, which uses sustainable methods to produce its electricity and collects and recycles rainwater to ensure they have minimal impact on the environment.

Day 8: Maninita

As you sail through the V-shaped passage towards the pretty island of Maninita, expect to find an inlet fringed with a white-sand beach which is out of this world, on an island which is identifiable for being densely covered with the majestic Puko tree.

Day 10 & 11: Kenutu

Overgrown with lush green vegetation and trees, the small path from the southern end of the island guides you to the peak viewpoint, where you’ll get expansive and impressive views out over the South Pacific Ocean.

Day 12: Taunga

Make your way around this archipelago back towards base, stopping off at Taunga Island which offers many hiking paths as well as beautiful beaches and excellent snorkelling.

Day 14: Vava'u

Return to the Sunsail base. During the summer season you are likely to find yourself sailing amongst pools of humpback whales and other breathtaking marine life. A good way to finish your trip with a nice and relaxing time on shore.
