Yacht Racing

At Sunsail, we want everyone to enjoy their yacht racing events as much as we do and there’s nothing like a day out on the water for blowing away the cobwebs. We offer a choice of yacht racing options including casual cruising at various rallies and cruises during the year and for those with a competitive edge, why not join an exisiting regatta or if you have enough people then make your own. We are involved in regattas all year round and all over the world, and in 2011 we introduced a brand new UK fleet of matched Sunsail F40 yachts at our base in Port Solent. The social side of regatta sailing is great fun wherever you choose to race.

    From March to June and September to October 2012 a fleet of Sunsail F40s will be based at The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Amateur medal racing doesn’t get any better than this!

    Sunsail Match Racing Academy

    As close as it gets to replicating the America’s Cup - the Sunsail Match Racing Academy lets you experience the thrills and spills of high drama yacht racing and close competition all in one day. Racing on optimised, identical Sunsail F40 racing yachts, whist being coached by a professional World Match Racing Tour sailor; this will be the best, simplest to arrange and most fun match racing experience on the water.

  • Biscay 2012 Race

    The Biscay 2012 Race involves crews racing from Hamble, UK to Brest, France and back to Hamble. The race is divided into three legs allowing for challenging and competitive racing complete over 950 nautical miles.

  • Cowes Week

    Cowes Week is probably the most famous yacht racing event in the world, with over 1000 boats and 8000 competitors, and Sunsail can put you at the heart of the action. Our exclusive one-design class is already entered into Cowes Week for 2011 and we have yachts available for charter for a day or a week, guaranteeing you an exhilarating racing experience and great party scene.

  • Round the Island Race

    The Round the Island Race is an annual yacht racing event and one of the most exhilarating and unique events on the sailing calendar, involving a circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight. This is an open regatta with around 1,800 yachts and 12,000 sailors, amateurs and professionals, participating. Sunsail’s matched fleet of brand new Sunsail F40 yachts is entered into its own class to provide you with the opportunity to participate in competitive match racing at its very best.

  • Sunsail Gill Racing Series

    Enjoy thrilling round the cans racing in the Solent onboard one of our BRAND NEW identically matched fleet of Sunsail F40’s in the Sunsail Racing Series. Participants can enter into the Spring, Summer and Autumn series, providing an opportunity to increase your competitive mileage and improve your racing ability. Two races take place on the Saturday and two on the Sunday, with successful teams from each round qualifying for the Racing Series final.

Sunsail Yacht Racing

We are the only large charter business in the Solent with an RYA Affiliated Yacht Club and therefore we are able to offer racing under the official racing rules of sailing. As a Solent Cruising & Racing Association member club we pay for use and upkeep of the SCRA racing buoys (the yellow special marks) in the Solent Area and therefore can use the official Racing Mark List.

As an SCRA member we work with all other Yacht Clubs in the Solent Area and Harbour Authorities to ensure that your regatta is safe from Shipping, Risk Assessed as per Local Notice to Mariners legal requirement and not delayed due to other yacht club events using the same marks.
