Martinique has its own word for trade winds – ‘les alizés’ - and these are nearly always from the SE to NE, at 10 to 25 knots. Calms are rare. During the Winter months, storms out in the North Atlantic may produce swells that reach the Windwards and could make anchorages to the north or west slightly uncomfortable.
