Kingdom of Tonga
The small ancient Kingdom of Tonga is still as it was in the late 1700s when Captain James Cook named it “The Friendly Islands”. Our base at Neiafu is the capital of Vava’u and your starting point for exploring the archipelago of fifty lush, verdant islands.
The northern-most group of the Tongan Islands, The Vava’u Archipelago is blessed with a near-perfect climate for year round sailing. Here you will find and array of colourful surroundings, with lush turquoise blue lagoons, fine white coral sand beaches and vibrant green coconut plantations.
As you cruise from the Sunsail base the natural harbour of Neiafu gives you an instant flavour of what’s in store. Just off the dock, the seabed drops to around 200ft and it is no exaggeration to say that its like swimming in an aquarium!
During the summer season you are likely to find yourself sailing amongst pools of humpback whales and other breathtaking marine life. This really is a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience.
For those who enjoy dining out, Tongan beach feasts are regular functions at the local resorts. There are also a number of island beach bars and restaurants which are set in amazing anchorages, perfect for sitting back and watching the beautiful Tongan sunsets.
Wherever you sail in these delightful islands, you can be sure to see something new and exciting at every turn…a truly breathtaking adventure.
