Our choice of charter base location at Nha Trang was determined by the superb sailing conditions, beautiful beaches and famous off lying islands like Hon Tre, Hon Yen and Hon Rua. Nha Trang is also just a 40 minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), the modern face of Vietnam. ‘Beach life’ pretty much sums up the exciting yet charming resort town of Nha Trang. Surrounded by green hills, its deep-blue bay is fringed with a glorious crescent of golden-white sand. It’s this beach that creates Nha Trang’s picture-postcard image and around which life in the town revolves.
Beachfront cafes, restaurants and bars draw in both foreign and local tourists, but the resort rarely feels overcrowded. Restaurants are everywhere, with fresh seafood toping the list of cuisines available, although you can easily find western menus including great French and Italian - even British - fare. A major draw for the town is the excellent seafood available at reasonable rates throughout Nha Trang. The fishing fleet leaves port every evening and each morning the fresh catch is deposited quayside for transport to the local markets. After hours the resort is pretty lively and if you are looking for somewhere to socialise, this is the place.
And then there’s the beach! With a wide range of watersports available and with its pristine golden sand, the beach is an obvious attraction. For those less beach inclined or looking for a cultural experience, Nha Trang boasts a cluster of Cham towers dating from the 9th century and a 14 metre statue of the Buddha overlooking the town. The market is a sight in itself and there are numerous shops selling all manner of goods for tourists. Many of the surrounding islands are only a short sail away where you can stop for a swim, snorkel and fabulous lunch. There are many great hotels around the resort and it’s well worth combining a few days ashore with a few days aboard so you can make the most of the local area.
Cruising notes
Head out from Nha Trang and cast off to explore the Khanh Hoa province which stretches from the Cam Ranh up to Van Ninh and includes approximately 60 miles of spectacular coastline with beautiful beaches, islands and deep bays to explore.
If you fancy swapping on the water for under the waves, diving is excellent in the northern part of Khanh. There are restaurants and some small resorts on a number of the islands and you will always be welcomed with a warm smile wherever you go.
Please note that a visa is required by all foreign nationals. Single entry visas are valid for one month and applications must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of travel.
