ACI Dubrovnik Marina Base

Our base at Komolac isn’t far from Dubrovnik’s historic Old Town, and a 10-minute taxi ride takes you into the heart of this ancient city. Explore the medieval fortifications, Renaissance palaces and overlapping streets of Dubrovnik before departing on your flotilla adventure, or stay in Komolac and climb the hills bordering the pretty Ombla River.

Dubrovnik to Slano

A short coastal cruise along the Dalmatian coast takes you from Dubrovnik to Slano. Let your keel cut through the warm, clear waters of the Adriatic until Slano’s sheltered natural harbour comes into view. Call for lunch at Lopud Island on the way, swimming and snorkelling from the broad swath of Misty Beach. While in Slano, be sure to sample the excellent local wine and olives.

Slano's sweet treats

Those with a sweet tooth should stop at the Admiral Grand Hotel, where a renowned pastry shop serves delicious local cakes.

Suggested lunch spots

Call at unspoilt Lopud Island on your way to Slano, and stop for lunch on the beaches of Šunj or Misty. There are no cars on Lopud, so the only way to reach these perfect picnic spots is by boat.

Slano to Okuklje, Mljet

Okuklje (Mljet), Croatia

From Slano’s sheltered harbour, sail over the glassy, millpond surface of the Adriatic to the island of Mljet. You’ll pass through a small gulf between the tree-topped islets of Otok Olipa and Otok Jakljan before entering the sheltered bay of Okuklje. Swim and snorkel in the shallow waters of the bay before spending an evening in a quiet konoba (restaurant) with your new flotilla friends.

Suggested lunch spots

Uninhabited Jakljan Island is the perfect place to anchor and enjoy a picnic lunch on deck or on shore. The island features a deep bay with a broad swath of beach, perfect for a midday dip.

Okuklje, Mljet Island

Lofty St. Nikola

Visit the hillside church of St. Nikola for stunning views over Okuklje. Be sure to take in the town’s excellent chocolate lava and rožata cakes, too.

Okuklje to Polače, Mljet

Polače,  Mljet Island

Cruise the length of forested Mljet Island, hugging the craggy shoreline en route to Polače. Protected from the elements by a group of small islets, Polače is built around an angle of coastline providing access to the lovely Mljet National Park. Obtain a national park ticket and head for the two pretty saltwater lakes for which the area is known.

Hike around Mljet’s spectacular saltwater lakes and cool off with a dip when you get too hot.

Suggested lunch spots

Call for lunch along the north coast of Mljet, dining in the restaurants of Sobra or Kozarica, or simply find a quiet anchorage to enjoy a break in peace and tranquillity.

Polače to Lumbarda, Korčula

Enjoy a spot of blue water sailing from Mljet to the island of Korčula, where you’ll call at the traditional fishing village of Lumbarda. With a wide bay offering ample mooring, Lumbarda features a number of excellent beaches where you can lounge in the sun for a relaxing afternoon. Lumbarda is also known for its Grk Bijeli wine, so treat yourself to a glass or three while you’re here.

The eastern end of Korčula is an area of rocky shores, sheltered bays and quiet beaches, any of which are perfect for a lazy lunch break. The large beach at Sandstrand is an ideal rest stop.

Lumbarda to Skrivena Luka, Lastovo

Carve an arc through the ocean as you leave Korčula behind and head for the island of Lastovo, passing between the groups of small islands that stand sentinel off the island’s east coast. One of Dalmatia’s more westerly islands, it takes a spell of exhilarating open water sailing to reach Lastovo from Korčula. Skrivena Luka is Lastovo’s ‘Hidden Harbour’, so named because it’s completely screened from view and sheltered from the open sea. Skrivena Luka is a haven for wildlife, with peregrine falcons nesting in Lastovo’s cliffs and diverse marine life on show beneath the waves.

Fantastic snorkelling

Snorkelling in the bays near Skrivena Luka will reveal diverse wildlife, including crayfish, octopi, lobsters and many species of fish. It’s an activity not to be missed.

From the ‘Hidden Harbour’ of Skrivena Luka to the ‘Big Harbour’ of Vela Luka, the next leg of your journey takes you to the island of Korčula once more. Vela Luka is a great spot to soak up some Croatian culture, with the town’s fine art galleries and museums well worth a visit. Out in the bay, the uninhabited islet of Osjak is a natural paradise where you can hike and swim in perfect isolation.

By now you’ll be confident enough to explore the Dalmatian Coast on your own. Your two free sailing days give you the chance to indulge your curiosity and set your own schedule, heading out to new destinations independently or in small groups with your new friends. Go further afield and forge out into the Adriatic—if you don’t have any set destinations in mind then your lead crew will be on hand with recommendations and the latest weather updates to ensure you make the most of your time.

With the Dalmatian Coast at your feet, your two free sailing days could take you to Vis in the west or the large islands of Hvar, Brač and Šolta further along the coast. You could even venture as far as Split and visit the ruins of Diocletian’s Palace, wander around the city’s excellent markets or relax in a cocktail bar with your new friends and watch the world go by. The free sailing days are yours to do with as you please, so make the most of them.

The Dubrovnik flotilla reunites at Lovište on the Pelješac Peninsula. Lovište is known for its water sports, with diving and windsurfing both popular in the region. If you’d rather kick back on land, Lovište’s relaxed and quiet atmosphere is a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life. Enjoy a meal and a drink with your flotilla companions at one of Lovište’s many fine restaurants.

Korčula, Croatia

Sail the narrow channel separating Korčula Island from the Pelješac Peninsula as you make your way from Lovište to fortified Korčula Town. Cruise between the spectacular, hilly prominences of Pelješac and Korčula, calling in at one of the island’s many small villages for a lunch break along the way. The historic, fortified town of Korčula is a hotbed of history and culture, with the town’s narrow cobbled streets lined with palaces and churches many hundreds of years old. Korčula Town is also a fantastic wine region, and it’s possible to arrange tours to visit the many vineyards cut into the nearby hills.

The birthplace of Marco Polo

Look out for the house thought to be the birthplace of famed explorer Marco Polo.

Stop for lunch in one of the many small villages speckling the north coast of Korčula Island, or anchor in a secluded bay for a little peace and quiet.

Korčula Town to Pomena, Mljet

Skirt the islets and atolls off Korčula’s east coast and point your bow towards Mljet. A few hours of blue water sailing takes you to Pomena in the island’s national park region. It’s another chance to visit the stunning saltwater lakes of Malo Jezero and Veleko Jezero, but if you’ve already hiked the national park then you can always kick back and lounge on one of Pomena’s white sand beaches instead.

Polače,  Mljet Island

An island within an island

Swim in the soothing waters of Mljet’s saltwater lakes and visit the 12th century monastery located on a tiny island within an island.

Anchor off one of the tiny islets to the east of Korčula and enjoy a secluded lunch break in the great outdoors.

Pomena to Suđurađ, Šipan

Suđurađ, Šipan Island

Cruise the length of Mljet and cross the narrow channel to Šipan, notching yet another beautiful Dalmatian island onto your tally. The town of Suđurađ is nestled in a small natural inlet on the east coast of the island, providing perfect sheltered mooring for an overnight stop. Šipan is an Eden-like island where olives, figs, grapes, almonds and citrus fruits spring up from the productive soil. Be sure to try some of the island’s excellent local produce before you leave.

From Suđurađ, the journey is a short one back to our base at Komolac. A shorter journey means you have plenty of time to further explore the Dalmatian Coast before you head home. Stop off for lunch at one of the beautiful Elaphiti Islands, or take the time to visit Dubrovnik and lose yourself in the irresistible old town. Whatever you decide to do, ensure you make the most of the last day of your Dubrovnik flotilla adventure.
